Nhulunbuy - Design and Construct New Cyclone Shelter

A general outline of the work to be carried out under the Contract comprises the design and construction of a new multipurpose community cyclone shelter. The proposed facility will operate as both a dual-court indoor sports facility and emergency cyclone shelter intended to accommodate approximately 1,800 occupants during cyclone shelter operation. The shelter will be required to comply with DLI Minimal Design Standards, the NT Public Cyclone Shelters Design Brief and Schedule of Documents.

The cyclone shelter will include:-

-        Main Hall

-        Office and Communications Room

-        Store

-        Security Room

-        First Aid Room 

-        Food Assembly Area

-        Cleaners Stores

-        Male and Female Change Rooms and Toilets

-        Change Place Facility

-        Accessible Toilets 

-        Sports Store

-        Mechanical Plant Room 

-        Generator Room 

-        Mezzanine Tank Room 

The building is to achieve Importance Level 4 (IL4) structural performance within a Region C Cyclone environment. The building will be air conditioned and will require designed for purpose vapour barrier protection. The design will allow for the provision of 3 future tennis courts, not 2 as shown on the concept plans.
