The Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) Medical Imaging Department requires technetium-99m to be used as the preferred radiotracer for a number of scans. Technetium-99m is extracted from molybdenum-99 (the ‘parent’ radioisotope) contained in the Gentech Generator at the Hospital. The Gentech Generator is produced at ANSTO Lucas Heights campus in Sydney using Australia’s only nuclear reactor OPAL.
RDH needs a weekly delivery of a Gentech Generator to perform the scheduled nuclear medicine procedures. The contract period is 36 months with two extensions of 12 months possible.
