Darwin - Design and Install the Permanent NT History Exhibition at the New Northern Territory Library
In 2024 the Northern Territory Library is moving to the new Education and Community Precinct (ECP), Darwin, a campus of Charles Darwin University. The new Library will be a site for lifelong learning, from early childhood through to formal study and adult learning in a modern facility that provides exciting, interactive and high-quality experiences.
The new Northern Territory Library will build audiences with a focus on Aboriginal people, regional and remote communities, children, school students and tertiary students. It will contribute to the revitalisation of the Darwin central business district by attracting tourists and residents through the delivery of diverse and inspiring new engagement and learning programs.
The new Library will feature a permanent exhibition that tells the stories and history of the Northern Territory. This will be a redevelopment of the current exhibition, A Territory Story, which opened in 2018 featuring the Library's collections. With the move to the ECP this exhibition is being redeveloped by the LANT curatorial team to include updates to some of the existing material and the creation of new content. The new exhibition will be based on ongoing consultation with Aboriginal communities to ensure their stories are represented in accordance with their perspectives.
A Contractor is sought to design and install the new permanent interpretive exhibition. Curatorial content including photographs, images and text will be supplied by the LANT team of curators. The exhibition will be redesigned to ensure the new iteration embraces truth telling, is culturally sensitive, relevant and engaging. The design and physical specifications of the exhibition will meet the highest standards of exhibition design and incorporate digital/technological assets that are simple to use and create meaningful experiential learning outcomes for audiences.
