Milingimbi - Construction of New Sewer Pumping Station 3 (SPS 3) and Rising Main

The Australian Federal Government and Northern Territory Government (NTG) are jointly investing $4 billion to improve housing and alleviate overcrowding in remote Aboriginal communities. This has triggered the need to build new infrastructure and upgrade existing infrastructure in these communities to support the additional load imposed by the investment. Milingimbi is an Aboriginal community that forms part of the crocodile island group off the north coast of central Arnhem Land in the Arafura sea west of Nhulunbuy. Milingimbi is one of the most over-crowded communities in the Northern Territory with limited existing lots available for development. The Department of infrastructure Planning and Logistics (DIPL) are proposing to construct a new subdivision in the community located in a greenfield area south-east of the airfield and west of the existing community. There are no existing services within the proposed subdivision area and as such a new Sewage Pump Station (SPS) and rising main is required to service the new subdivision and convey sewage to the waste stabilisation ponds.
