Naiyu, Nganmarriyanga, Peppimenarti, Wadeye - Consultancy - Process Evaluation for a Period of 12 Months

The West Daly Peace Project is supporting Aboriginal peacemakers as the first responders in community conflict and is building capability for mediation and peacemaking across the region. Under this project, the Community Justice Centre (CJC) has employed Senior Aboriginal Practitioners and accredited Mediators in a bi-cultural project team who are identifying, upskilling and empowering Aboriginal peacemakers to co-design and facilitate conflict resolution workshops in each community, and working with Aboriginal peacemakers and local stakeholders on a regional approach to conflict management. By investing in local leadership and community approaches for managing conflict, the project will increase community safety, reduce contact with the justice system and promote peace in the West Daly region. The West Daly Peace Project has been funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) and includes independent evaluation. Evaluating this project is intended to address a research gap in the process of Aboriginal peacemaking and to capture the value and benefits of peacemaking beyond a reduction or de-escalation in high conflict situations.

This Ground Up research evaluation will work collaboratively with CJC staff to work within local networks of authority to document, interpret and make visible past and present practices of peacemaking, trace networks of conflict resolution, and identify possible stakeholder and service delivery learnings.
