Darwin Region - Kakadu - Upgrade Gimbat Road 20.51 to 25.50km and Gunlom Road 2.30 to 8.65km - Mandatory Industry Briefing

Gimbat Road upgrade from chainage 20.51km to 25.15km will consist of raising the formation to improve wet season performance and immunity. This 4.6km section will consist of a 7m wide gravel carriageway and include construction of 12 culvert structures and five major concrete floodways.  

Upgrades from chainage 25.15km to 25.5km consist of improving the approaches to the South Alligator River crossing and will include formalisation of table drains and construction of a 7m wide bitumen sealed pavement.  

Works on Gimbat Road must be delivered “under traffic” with minimal disruption to the public and minimal clearing beyond the existing disturbed footprint.

Gunlom Road upgrade from chainage 2.30km to 8.65km will consist of the construction of a new road up and out of the South Alligator River flood zone to improve wet season performance and immunity. This 6.35km section will consist of a 7m wide gravel carriageway and include significant works in cut and fill, 4.2km of catch drain, construction of 30 culvert structures and two major concrete floodways. 

Works on Gunlom Road must be delivered “under traffic” with minimal disruption to the public. The works for both packages will generally include: 

• Safety, quality and environmental; planning, control and compliance throughout the duration of the works. 
• Plan, implement and maintain labour and resourcing to ensure Local Content is maximised and the Indigenous Participation targets are achieved.
• Provision for Traffic planning, control and compliance throughout the duration of the works. 
• Establishment, maintenance and demobilisation of all site facilities and resources.
• Earthworks in cut and fill to balance and prepare the formation.
• Extraction, crushing, screening and processing natural gravel to produce subgrade and base course material in accordance gravel specified properties. 
• Pavement works consisting typically of 200mm compacted base course. 
• Drainage works including construction of floodways, culverts and associated protection works. 
• Supply and installation of road furniture.
