Darwin - Hidden Valley - Pavement Rehabilitation - Various Back Roads

The "backroads" of the Hidden Valley motor complex were utilised during Severe
Tropical Cyclone Fina clean-up efforts, where the complex was used as a
temporary green waste dump and also served as a laydown area and stockpile
site for mulching operations.
During the cyclone clean-up, the backroads have been damaged, where the
existing RAP (recycled asphalt product) pavement has potholed or started to
unravel in a number of locations.
These roads are also used to facilitate the Darwin V'8 Supercar event.
As such, this project intends to rehabilitate select backroads before the supercars
arrive in Darwin. This puts a timeline on the project to be fully delivered by the 15th of June 2026.

There are two components to the project. The first component is a full rehabilitation of the pavement
involving topping-up, pulverising, recompacting and a two-coat seal. The second component is resealing
only.
Areas were defined by the footprint of the existing RAP surface and broken into sections to somewhat
achieve nominal widths within those section.
A two-coat seal for both areas (14mm/7mm) has been specified with an assumed application rate of 2.3L
total. Application rates will be confirmed once the base has been prepared.
The price assumes the project can close the backroads to all traffic during construction.
The reworks section includes a top-up with 50mm of gravel/FCR across the surface, followed by
pulverizing and mixing the existing RAP and top-up material @200mm to make a new basecourse. This
methodology was chosen to achieve the best blend with the RAP, top-up and underlying material.
A google earth map was provided to the tenderer showing the extent of works and a schedule of rates
was provided for pricing purposes. A site visit was undertaken with both DLI and Sage representatives on the 13/05/26 to confirm capacity prior to Sage submitting a quote for the works.
