AGRN1258 Secondary and Local Roads Emergency Reinstatement - Sandover Highway CH 523.64 to CH 561.64 Km

The Sandover Highway has sustained significant damage during Flood Event 1258 within the Barkly Region, leading to reduced accessibility and compromised operational performance across multiple sections of the road between Austral Downs Road turn off to QLD/NT Border. Immediate reinstatement works are essential to restore safe travel conditions, maintain regional connectivity, and support community access and freight movement.

Scope of Immediate Works

Reinstatement activities will focus on three priority sections of the Sandover Highway:

* Gravel Capping - Two sections between the NT/QLD border and Lake Nash Station, and one section between the Alpurrurulam Community and Austral Downs Road turn off requires gravel capping to re-establish structural integrity and safe travel on highway.

* Flood Damage Rectification - Works will address sand and silt deposition, erosion impacts, and pavement damage.

These works are critical to reinstating the highway to an operational and safe standard in the shortest possible timeframe.
